Position Overview

As a Fresh National Merchandising Analyst , will collaborate with vendors and manufacturers, retail customers, and internal teams (i.e. Procurement and Sales) on negotiating and executing against strategic merchandising programs for our independent retailers. You will have the opportunity to create, manage/monitor and improve promotional programs with vendors and interact with retail customers.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate gross profit buying opportunities with vendors (buys, slotting, direct plant shipment (DPS), etc.) while maximizing profit (last buys before price increases, better bracket buys, alternate sourcing)

  • Negotiate and execute promotional merchandising programs with vendors and manufacturers for national merchandising, including weekly ads, block buys, and food show programs

  • Manage reconciliation of vendor program incentives to ensure accuracy and proper payment

  • Setup and maintain item and vendor data (ie. pricing & item accuracy, item changes, category marketing information, loss margin resolution)

  • Study and anticipate commodity changes to maximize revenue

  • Assist vendors and buyers with dead and excess inventory

  • Retail and wholesale P&L accountability for merchandising lines in assigned categories for 5 divisions

  • Manage merchandising accruals and vendor recoups

  • Analyze and manage trade spend analysis

  • Work on special projects with Senior Analysts and Mangers

Independent Retailer Components

  • Create promotional programs for independent retailers that drive profitable sales

  • Act as the independent customers’ merchandising arm to insure consumer trends in your categories are being met

  • Interact with retail customers on special ad and promotional needs and requests

  • Manage seasonal pre-sells

  • Serve as divisional liaison for national merchandising team

  • Support and help all divisions merchandising special needs and requests

  • Be subject matter expert (SME) in assigned categories, including having a deep understanding of production and supply side and retail/end user side

  • Heavy involvement in bi-annual Independent Retailer Food Shows for 3 divisions; including booth solicitation, product sales and margin in assigned categories

  • Marketing and financial involvement with Vendor Variety Guides, Annual Golf Tournament, Recipe Book and all other corporate marketing initiatives

  • Retail Systems interface for host support process for new items and promotional programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or relevant work experience

  • Two years' related industry experience (wholesale or retail)

  • Fresh/ Perishable experience preferred (Produce, Deli/Dairy, Seafood, Meat, etc.)

  • Basic computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Professional verbal and written communication skills

  • Negotiation, organization, prioritizing, and problem solving skills
