Position Overview

As a Fueler , you are responsible for operating a truck and trailer/bobtail tanker to deliver fuel to the Company’s fleet on the yard. They are responsible for the proper and efficient completion of assigned duties, they must keep the truck properly maintained and they must follow all safe driving regulations.


  • Load and unload tanker with petroleum adhering to all Company and Governmental regulations.

  • Operates bobtail tanker according to Company policies and state/federal laws.

  • Completes and transmits all paperwork (documenting fuel levels) using fuel tickets in

  • compliance with established Company procedures.

  • Refuels Reefers and Tractors on all company campuses.

  • Maintains miscellaneous service duties such as checking on a daily basis oil, water, fuel, tires and tank related items if working on the fuel island.

  • Performs safety inspections on trucks, equipment and/or facilities as required by Company policy.

  • Reports any equipment malfunctions, operating discrepancies, or concerns to the

  • Fleet Manager.

  • It’s required by DOT (Department of Transportation) & Federal Motor Carriers to perform pre & post trips on each commercial motor vehicle. As such, a requirement of the Fueler position is to perform these inspections and/or assist a driver in performing the inspection during the fueling process. Any unit found to out of compliance must be removed from service and defects report to the supervisor on duty. This will include but not limited to the following:

  • Service brakes:

  • Parking (Hand) Brakes:

  • Steering mechanism:

  • Lighting devices & reflectors:

  • Tires:

  • Horn:

  • Windshield Wipers:

  • Rear Vision mirrors:

  • Coupling devices:

  • Other items as required:

  • During the course of the pre-trip inspection it may be determined that fluids & grease may be needed. All fluids must be recorded as required. This will include but not limited to the following:

  • Diesel Fuel

  • Engine Oil

  • Anti-freeze

  • Windshield Washer Fluid

  • Diesel Exhaust Fluid

  • Tire air pressure

  • 5th. Wheel Grease

  • Hub Oil

  • Transmission Fluid

  • Other items as required

  • Knowledge of using spill kits and fire extinguisher.

  • Perform other duties and specific tasks as assigned by Fleet Manager


  • Valid Class A or B (CDL) Commercial Driver’s license with hazardous material and tanker endorsement that authorizes the operation of a combination of hazardous material and tank vehicle.

  • Meet Department of Transportation physical and medical requirements, pass substance abuse screening and agree to random substance abuse screening as required by Company Policy.

  • Tanker experience is required.

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos as well as to write simple correspondence.

  • Ability to speak and communicate using devices supplied by the Company.
