Position Overview

As a Produce Retail Sales Counselor, you will be responsible for counseling, advising, and otherwise assisting retail store owners and managers, on how best and most profitably, to operate a retail supermarket. You will also be effectively engaging the various services and programs of the company and by the application of his/her own experienced judgment; you will be the first point of contact with the retailer and owns the relationship.

Job Description

  • Create, nurture, and maintain a positive climate between retailers and the company and between each retailer and the Retail Counselor.

  • Travel by car and /or plane to work non-traditional hours which include staying overnight if needed

  • Accumulate and organize relevant economic and operating data which will enable the retailer's in conjunction with the company, to plan, organize, and manage the retailer's operations, in the most effective manner possible.

  • Accumulate and assemble internal facts, which are relevant to the management of each retail store. Such facts generally include: sales / market share / customer count /productivity measurements / transaction data / distributions / margins / expense controls / profits / gross & net / R.O.I. / cash flow / competitive situation / shrink / marketing / and advertising.

  • Analyze and organize data into usable form. Coordinate as necessary, with relevant retail support services, such as store development, marketing, financial services, real estate, etc.

  • Ensure an adequate flow of information between the company and the retailer.

  • Initiate and/or continue to support and administer, short and long range plans aimed at perpetuating retail viability, by developing "A plan for every store".

  • Set goals and determine specific objectives for operational improvements, promotional activities, and physical store development.

  • In his/her short-term retail planning, the Retail Counselor will focus primarily on operational, promotional and GSC sales program issues.

  • Long term planning is to concentrate principally on upgrading of the physical facility. This is to include remodeling, expansion, and or relocation. Major projects will be coordinated with company support services.

  • Review the progress toward planned goals and identify retail problems with each retailer.

  • Recommend solutions to retailers and assist them in selecting and implementing the best course of action.

  • Assist in the follow through of decisions made by the retailers.

  • Coach retailers and their employees to elevate their personal expertise and job performance.

  • Engage others, especially from within the company, to provide specialized coaching or guidance.

  • Inform and encourage each retailer, to use the company's retail services and programs. Provide feedback when improvements are needed to make programs viable.

  • Present the features, advantages, and benefits of each service or program.

  • Advise the company in the formation of services and programs.

  • Provide input into programs under design, and to marketing planning, and presentations for new programs.

  • Annually develop budgets for assigned territory.

  • Carry out responsibilities to meet budget results.

  • Understand all Grocers Supply program and its services
