The Director of Benefits will play a key role in developing and implementing the company’s benefits and wellness strategy as well as stewardship of all health &welfare programs. This role reports directly to the VP, Human Resources and is responsible for delivery of seamless, high quality Center of Excellence services to the organization in partnership with the HR Shared Services team and to ensure effectively delivery of benefit program to employees in a way that enhances the employee experience.
Partner with the V.P. Human Resources to create and drive a total rewards strategy that supports building a talented and diverse workforce of top talent in support of the strategic growth plan.
Research, design, and propose new or revised benefits offerings that align with the company’s total rewards strategy and that differentiate us from our competitors.
Develop innovative communication plans to ensure employees have a clear understanding of the company’s benefits and wellness offerings; acts as a champion of wellness programs and organizes wellness fairs, campaigns and other activities to drive participation and awareness
Conduct plan analysis, program benchmarking and reporting of benefit programs. Drive a consistent review of claims experience, utilization trends, program enrollment and executive dashboards.
Facilitate annual benefits pricing and design efforts, including regular plan reviews in partnership with our benefits advisor and benefit providers. Provide necessary data to assist in preparing budgetary recommendations as well as information on utilization trends and program enrollment.
Leverage employee data to inform the design and delivery of benefit programs and to stay ahead of future workforce needs
Maintain high-quality and cost-effective management of the Company’s health and welfare benefit programs, practices, and design initiatives with an emphasis on safety, quality, service, cost/productivity, and compliance.
Direct management of health & welfare vendors to maximize service levels for plan management and participants while negotiating favorable contract terms and conditions. Lead negotiations and renewals with vendors.
Provide direction and guidance to the HR Business Partner community and plan participants regarding benefit inquiries, plan appeals, etc.
Responsible for audits and regulatory filings for benefit plans and managing/supporting vendor relationships of benefit programs
Maintaining a strong understanding of benefit plan design trends and regulatory changes. Manage and ensure all regulatory compliance related to benefit plans.
Develop and maintain relationships with a cross functional group of strategic internal partners, retaining a strong customer-focused mindset while ensuring adherence to policies and service delivery.
Develop a set of key metrics, process and performance indicators that align with organization goals, operational strategies and plans and hold the team accountable for achieving those metrics.
Foster a team culture that embraces innovation, continuous improvement and change.
Implement process improvement initiatives which result in improved plan performance metrics and cost efficiency.
Manage staff and budgets for the benefits team.
Experience, Education And Specialized Knowledge And Skills
Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate, and develop relevant and realistic plans, programs and recommendations. Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action. Proven track record in leading a Benefits function. Other requirements:
A bachelor's degree in Business Administration or HR-related discipline; Master’s preferred
Minimum 7-10 years of progressive HR/Benefits experience with multi-state employer required; union experience preferred.
CBP designation from World at Work, HRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) is preferred.
Has successfully developed and executed plan changes in partnership with vendors and outside consultants
Understanding of actuarial models and application of models to self- and fully-insured plans.
Extensive knowledge of ERISA, PPACA, COBRA, HIPAA, Café Section 125
Experience with HRIS systems, report writing, electronic file feeds; Workday preferred
Microsoft Office proficiency; specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects within prescribed deadlines
Strong leader with the ability to interact and influence others
Analytical thinker with the ability to conduct research, analyze data and solve complex problems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to effectively work across levels, and functions.
Able to take initiative, effective at prioritizing multiple projects, comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
