Position Overview

The Office Salesperson will work cooperatively with outside sales and other members of the distribution team to grow existing customers create new customers and meet or exceed monthly sales quotas at the appropriate gross margin while increasing customer satisfaction.

Job Description

Essential Functions of the Job Functions:

• Generate new and repeat sales by providing product and technical information in a timely


• Determine customer requirements and expectations in order to recommend specific

products and solutions

• Recommend alternate products based on cost, availability or specifications

• Present price, credit, and terms in accordance with standard procedures and customers’

profitability profiles

• Accurately process customer transactions such as orders, quotes, or returns

• Take care of customers’ credits, price issues, delivery problems, or any other situations

that may occur in a professional and courteous manner

• Provide accurate information regarding availability of in-stock items

• Obtain accurate information from vendors relating to shipment dates and expected date of


• Proactively recommend items needed by customers to increase customer satisfaction and

improve transaction profitability

• Increase sales and average order size by means of cross-selling, up-selling, add-on sales,

and offering promotional sale items

• Educate customers about terminology, features, and benefits of products in order to

improve product related sales and customer satisfaction

• Monitor scheduled shipment dates to ensure timely delivery and expedite as needed

• Contact customers following sales to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction and resolve

any complaint

• Fill request for catalogs, information, or samples

• Setup and maintain customer files

• Identify trends in customer satisfaction or dissatisfaction

• Manage time efficiently, meet personal goals, and work effectively with other members of

the distribution team

• Communicate to the purchasing department unexpected increase or decreases in demand

for products

• Maintain proficiency in using personal computer, data entry terminal, and other common

office equipment and software

• Follow company policies and procedures

• Present a professional image at all times to customers and vendors

• Able to work Saturdays and Sundays on rotation

• Perform other duties as assigned

Will Call Support

• Responsible for office clerical tasks related to Will Call Operations

• Record Keeping

• Driving/ Operating Electric Powered Pallet Jack

• Use of Voice Recognition System to select product

• Housekeeping/ Cleaning

Performance Measurements

Yearly performance appraisals will include, but are not limited to the review of the following areas. Other areas may be included / added as business needs warrant.

• Hit all financial goals; sales and margin

• Increase case movement by 12.0%

• Align Sales and Procurement

• Implement/ integrate QA program

• Improve backhaul use

• Complete sourcing calendar/ category review

• Markup review – new model

• Add corporate customers

• Improve penetration by customer

• Improve customer relationships

• Build single team, sales, procurement, operations and transportation

• Grow profitable additional delivery locations

• Provide a high level of service towards customer relations

• Work with sales and buyers as needed for customer order fulfillment

• Handle customer problems or any other situations that may occur in a professional and

courteous manner.

• Be aware of product availability, seasonal items, and knowledge of product.

• Notify supervisor of any outstanding or reoccurring issues with customer needs

• Physical Requirements

• Standing and sitting for long periods of time

• Visual: looking at computer monitor

• Hearing /Speech: Communication with customers and staff

Record Keeping

• Take customer orders, input them, print invoices, and collect payment

• Use wireless Voice Recognition System.

• Obtain Ship Labels from Will Call office.

• All other duties as assigned.


• Two years Wholesale or Retail grocery experience

• Ability to manage customer accounts

• Must be able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and complete projects in a timely manner

• Extensive product knowledge

• Ability to maintain confidential information

• Excellent organizational skills and follow through

• Strong computer skills, with Word and Excel required

• Strong data entry skills

• Strong analytical skills and decision making capability

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

• Must be able to use fax machine, scanner, digital camera, and copier

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
