Position Overview

The Produce Retail Counselor covers all sale functions for an assigned customer base and performs any related duties assigned by the sales manager relative to supporting the customer base. Acts as liaison between customer and sales staff: in addition prepares periodic reports and acts as a customer service representative as required. Must be able to demonstrate thorough knowledge of the specifications, merchandising, and interactions of the produce complex and communicate company’s competitive edge on adding value for the customer through our specifications and knowledge of produce.

Job Description


  • Supports merchandising functions for all regional and expo trade shows. Also assists in customer department merchandising resets and refreshing.

  • Secures opportunities to quote on customer requirements.

  • Establishes professional customer/vendor relationships with appropriate customer personnel.

  • Submits weekly activity/call reports concerning customer-related activities for quotes, orders, and problems concerning customer/vendor relationships.

  • Solicits and secures orders from potential and existing customers.

  • Manages cost of sales expenses weekly.

  • Travel Required: Yes


  • Specialized Knowledge: Commodity produce product knowledge. Must be computer literate, excellent communication skills, self-motivated, self-starter, sense of urgency, personable, extroverted personality, well organized.

  • Other: Travel as needed for business purposes, valid Driver’s License and have and maintain a clear driving record, Liability Insurance with extended limits

  • Must be able to perform assigned duties with minimum supervision from the Sales Manager and work independently.

  • Must be able to travel overnight, to customer locations up to 4 nights per week.

Years Of Experience

  • Education (Minimum Needed): High School Diploma

  • Experience (Minimum Needed): 1 year experience directly related to the produce sales /distribution industry/Outside sales experience.
